HR Manager

Formation is growing quickly, and we're seeking an HR Manager with a track record of building successful organizations. We’ve grown to over 80 employees in our first year and a half and expect to more than double in the next year. We are looking for a skilled HR Manager that can advise and lead the team through high growth.

We are looking for an HR Manager to help lead efforts in further growing our company. You will play a meaningful role in attracting and retaining great Formation Team Members who align with our company goals and culture. This role will have the opportunity to define and drive the strategic direction as the company grows to meet new demands.  Provides advice and counsel to managers and employees as to People policies and procedures, including but limited to, employee benefits. Manage the contractor program from strategic planning to implementation to best assist Recruiting. Oversee workers compensation, 401(k), and leave of absence, and various Formation benefit programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The People Team is responsible for all policies, procedures, and programs for Formation.
  • This position reports to the VP of People of employment and will oversee various personnel policies and procedures, employee records, Health and Welfare, and EDD; management development, training certification, and quality circle program; exempt and non-exempt salary administration, employee benefits administration, employee communication, and compliance.
  • Maintains a pay plan by conducting periodic pay surveys
  • The Human Resources Manager works with all levels of management to provide People expertise in all aspects of the human resources function, including but not limited to, employee relations, benefits, full-cycle onboarding and off-boarding, workers compensation, and leave of absence.
  • Consistent evaluation of the company’s contractor / agency program to include continued relationship building with community resources, temporary agencies and monitoring of best practices regarding agency use and strategy.
  • Maintains and enhances the organization's human resources by planning, implementing, and evaluating employee relations and human resources policies, programs, and practices.
  • Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements; conducting investigations; maintaining records; representing the organization at hearings.
  • Consistently maintains favorable and effective relations among employees, accountable for motivating and stimulating managers to ensure consistent, equal, and quality treatment of their employees.
  • Mediator, counselor, and facilitator in arbitrating disputes between employees and their managers.
  • Counsels and advises the affected individuals on the use of the problem-solving procedure, which consists of a systematic approach to understanding, approaching, and solving employee/supervisor problems.
  • Must use care and judgment to ensure fairness and equity throughout the counseling process while emphasizing Formation's values and culture.
  • Knowledge of the Formation's benefit programs and their application must be complete. Acts as benefits counselor to both management and employees while having some responsibility with the various vendors (i.e., broker, insurance vendor, etc.).

Peripheral Duties:

  • Special projects as assigned by the VP of People
  • Collaborate with the Recruiting Team to assist with improving recruiting proficiencies.  
  • Passionately drive results by thinking and acting quickly to ensure the long-term best interest of Formation objectives and culture
  • Works with pulling HR relevant data from ADP Workforce Now to better understand what is happening for Formation employees to derive best practices, policies, etc.  
  • Stay connected to the competitive landscape, including trends in tech human resources, policies, procedures, benefits, leave of absence, inclusion, and compensation.

Skills and Experience: 

  • A track record with working in a hyper growth and successful technology organization in human resources with applying business acumen.
  • Strong program management and communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Experience designing, assessing, deploying and optimizing talent campaigns and initiatives
  • Experience with defining and analyzing People Team metrics and data
  • We’re looking for someone with 10+ years of experience in HR, has a 4-year degree in Business or an HR related field preferred, but not required, PHR, SPHR or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Tools and Equipment Used: Computer, Google Office products, ADP Workforce Now, Expensify, proprietary software and other basic office equipment.
